Headphones: It is essential to monitor audio when using an external microphone.
Not monitoring audio is equivelant to shooting video without looking through the viewfinder!
Headphones suitable for location audio monitoring should have the following characteristics:
- The headphones should cover the ear to reduce ambient sound.
- The sensitivity of the headphone should match the camera being used. This will allow
the monitoring level to be sufficiently loud to overcome ambient sound levels without creating distortion.
- They should fold up in some way to make them more portable.
- They should fit the camera jack without adapters.
- They should fit your budget!
- "Walkman" headphones are not suitable in most cases.
